CASE HISTORY
Summary - ASARCO Sweetwater Unit
Mr. Carl Mann Jr., Enviromental Specialist of the Missouri Lead Division requested funds for a 52 acre tract located on the existing tailing pond. The purchase order for the project was received September 30 and work on the site started October 14 and the first phase concluded November 18. The following is the history of the project:
| AGT, Inc did a site characterization in July that included taking a
sample of the tailings to be treated. Mr. Mann also sent a significant sample of the
tailings through the mail. The tailings were sent to our lab for an analysis and a
prescription for the job was determined. The site studies were reviewed and it was
determined that another trip to the area and site was necessary in order for our
operations division to secure contracts for labor and arrange for materials from local
vendors. this second trip was set for early August. All information and a bid sheet was submitted to Mr. Mann in mid August. During the time of identifying exactly how much of the project was to be done, Mr. Mann contacted us and a few changes were made to the original proposal. the purchase order was received on September 30. AGT, Inc. shipped product to ASARCO and it arrived on their dock on October 13. We shipped prescription to MFA at Salem, MO to be mixed as per our direction and applied by them. Using vendors in the are, we began applying our products on Tuesday, October 14. We used spray rigs to make applications of ReclaMax 1 on October 14 and 15. We had MFA apply a dry application of our ReclaMax Prescription that contained K-31 Fescue on Thursday, October 16. We followed the dry application on the same day with a flex-tine harrow that worked our prescription into the ground. the first application of ReclaMax 2 was applied on Friday, October 17. The temperature remained above freezing thourgh out the week of application. However, the average temperature during the following week was 20ºF with three days below 10ºF. The overall weather temperature ranged from 10ºF to 52ºF. It even snowed. However, the snow remained only one day as the temperature increased to 49ºF the next day. Mr. Mann called in early November to let us know that we had plant emergence and the grass was up about 1/2 inch. According to him, "things look very promising." We were concerned about the emergence of the plants as we were very late in being notified of the job and the growing season was coming to a close. However, we placed the final application of ReclaMax 2 down on November 18. Because of the absence of any growth regulators or of any organic material that can provide any nutrients, we made the following recommendations:
