| RATE OF TREATMENT: 1/2 gallon per acre TIMING: 1 quart applied in November, 1996 1 quart applied at dormancy break - March 15, 1997 UNCONTROLLED VARIABLES: April 10, 1997 - 3 day freeze - temperatures of 10 to 12° F. for over 48 hr. All wheat in trail affected. Planted hard red wheat, seed rate 1 Bu/acre, irrigation was almost at normal levels (a little less due to rain), normal levels are 2 inches in fall and approximately 20 inches in spring, NPK program was 100-0-0, residual NPK was 0-20-0 (approximate). |

Yield Results |
| #1 | 250 acres | 90 acres treated with EnviroMax and 160 check | clay loam - 2% organic matter - 7.4 pH. Wheat was at first joint (Feekes Stage 6) and elongation of internode at time of freeze. | EnviroMax = 67.1 Bu/ac Check = 42.2 Bu/ac |
#2 |
125 acres |
1/2 EnviroMax and 1/2 check | sandy clay loam - 1.3% organic matter - 7.4 pH. Wheat was at Feekes Stage 5 at time of freeze, also hailed on heavily at Feekes 11 - Grain fill. | EnviroMax = 43 Bu/ac AMISORB = 41 Bu/ac |
| #3 | 250 acres | 1/2 EnviroMax and 1/2 check | sandy clay loam - 1.3% organic matter - 7.4 pH. Wheat was at Feekes Stage 5 at time of freeze, also hailed on heavily at Feekes 11 - Grain fill. | Due to hail, no splits were made at harvest - entire field averaged 22 Bu/ac |
#4 |
250 acres |
1/2 EnviroMax and 1/2 check | sandy clay loam - 1.6% organic matter - 6.8 pH. Wheat was at Feekes Stage 4 - 5 at freeze; also, moderate hail damage at Feekes 11. | EnviroMax = 30 Bu/ac Check = 21 Bu/ac |
#5 |
250 acres |
1/2 EnviroMax and 1/2 check | sandy clay loam - 1.7% organic matter - 7.4 pH. Wheat was at Feekes Stage 5 - 6 at freeze. | EnviroMax = 60 Bu/ac Check = 48 Bu/ac |
SUMMARY: This was not an optimum year for wheat production in the Texas Panhandle. Eighty bushel wheat quickly became twenty after the freeze. Generally, I saw increased tillering, improved germination, increased retillering after the freeze, and better yield performance with the use of EnviroMax fertigated alone or in combination with fertilizer (28-0-0-5).
Soils that contained higher amounts of clay gave the best results when using the product. Improved porosity and water holding capacity were also noted with the use of EnviroMax.
