UAP Northwest Report
On Onions, Field Corn, Potatoes, Mint & Sugar Beets

Below you will find information from some of my customers who have recently applied EnviroMax (SoilMaster Rx) and have reported their results to me.   The customers and crops below all had EnviroMax™ applied in 1997.  Please note that the product was a contributor to less run-off, improved crumb structure, good soil tilth and improved utilization of water.

CUSTOMER #1: I have supervised the application of EnviroMax on a variety of crops. These include onions, potatoes and field corn. All applications were done in the Frenchmen Hills area of the Columbia Basin.

In all applications, EnviroMax effected the soil/H2O relationship in a positive way. In light soils, EnviroMax seemed to hold the soil in place during high winds. This reduced the damage to seedling field corn from sandblasting in the wind. It also increased the ability of the field to hold moisture.

In heavier soils, EnviroMax seemed to aerate and flocculate soils, which allowed tubers and bulbs to grow or size more evenly. Moisture in the heavier soil seemed to stay in the root zones and was available to the roots for a longer period.

CUSTOMER #2: Mint - I chemigated 1.2 gallons of EnviroMax on 2 acres, approximately 3 pints/acre in 3 sets were applied, with 25 units of N/set. The ground held water better. EnviroMax improved root growth and increased plant vigor.

CUSTOMER #3: I made two 1/2 gallon applications per acre to sugar beets and grain corn. The sugar beets were on extremely hilly ground. EnviroMax was applied through a center pivot with 3/4 inch of water/acre. Beets on the hillsides were consistent in size with those in the flats. Run-off decreased. A 35 acre hillside field yielded clean 36 ton/acre with 16.0% plus sugar consistently. This is consistent with the yield on the flatter ground. Typically, in the past, the yield and sugar from the hillside crop has not been consistent with the yield and sugar from crops in the flat.

Grain corn yielded 220 plus bushels/acre. Stalks in area treated with EnviroMax were stronger and showed better root growth. We tested the EnviroMax using a check plot and a test plot. The check plot was 0.451 acres and yielded 25,990 lbs. The test plot was 0.408 acres and yielded 29,670 lbs. If these figures are converted to one acre yields, a check plot would yield 57,627.49 lbs. (28.8 tons) and the test plot would yield 72,720.59 lbs. (36.36 tons). This is over a 26% increase in yield. I was pleased with the results.

CUSTOMER #4: I had applied EnviroMax (sidedress) at one gallon per acre with 100 units of N per acre last spring to a sugar beet field (35 acres). My assessment (no harvest yet) is that the acreage where the EnviroMax was applied shows good infiltration and an ability to hold water.

(Note from Harper: I have not spoken to Customer #4  to obtain the crop results, but should have those in soon.)
